Indiana Progressives and DFA hold joint Organizing Summit
Jim Dean and member of Indiana Progressives at our Sept 15th Organizing Summit
The Sept 15th Organizing Summit was a great success for both Indiana Progressives and DFA.Â
In the morning members of Indiana Progressives met and after some much needed coffee and donuts got down to work and hammered out new bylaws for the organization. They also by unanimous consent approved all candidates for the board of directors and elected Eldon Robison as chair.Â
The morning was filled out with former chairman of the Indiana Democratic Party, partner of the Winston/Terrell Consulting Group and now current board member giving a masterful presentation on the importance of inclusion in politics and his view of the unique role Indiana Progressives can play in policy development for progressive candidates. Former Lt.Gov. Kathy Davis echoed those views and expressed her desire to work with Indiana Progressives in developing sound policy for the benefit of all Hoosiers.
The afternoon session was kicked off by Jim Dean who along with DFA community organizer Ilya Sheyman flew in just for this event.  Jim began by  pointingout how important Indiana was to DFA's national strategy and how happy he was  to be back again in Indiana.  He then presented a check for DFA's newest A list candidate Bloomington's own Isabel Piedmont who is running for 5th district City Council.
Isabel is a graduate of DFA's 2007 campaign training held earlier in the spring in Bloomington.
For the rest of the afternoon JIm and Ilya conducted a series of workshops on how to improve and keep energy high in DFA and local grassroots organizations.
At the conclusion of the day many attendees met at Loughmiller's the well known Indianapolis political pub for food and drink. Loughmiller's which is usually closed on Saturday's had arranged to open just for us.
